Hudson Chorale Presents: Haydn’s Die Schöpfung (The Creation)

  • The Chapel at Maryknoll 55 Ryder Road Ossining, NY, 10545 United States (map)

Hudson Chorale, the area’s largest mixed voice chorus, will begin its 2018 season with matinee performances on Saturday, January 27 at 3:00 pm and Sunday, January 28 at 3:00 pm of Franz Joseph Haydn’s masterpiece, Die Schöpfung (The Creation). There is no better place to experience a concert of great sacred music than the magnificent and inspirational Queen of the Apostles Chapel at Maryknoll, 55 Ryder Road, Ossining, NY. To bring out the beauty and depth of the text, which is based on the biblical Book of Genesis, the work will be performed in its original German and include full orchestral accompaniment as well as professional soloists.

Music Director, Ira Spaulding, with a singing, conducting and teaching career of more than 40 years, promises to offer up such a dynamic performance that even audience members who have heard the piece several times before will leave the concert with the feeling of hearing it for the first time.

During the majority of his musical career, Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) was the most celebrated composer in the world, and is credited with being the father of the symphony and the father of the string quartet. His oratorio, Die Schöpfung, is considered by many to be his greatest musical achievement.

Following the concert, the audience is invited to an informal reception to meet and chat with the conductor, soloists, orchestra and chorus members while enjoying some delicious refreshments, a long-standing Hudson Chorale tradition. Ticket Prices: Advance Sale-$25; Door-$30; Students-$10. Handicap parking is available at the venue. For additional chorus or event information, visit the chorus website.
